Sort of a post-modern refuge both from and within capitalistic excess, by way of a guided tour of historical film theory. While the film speaks very directly to students of cinema, it also heartily celebrates the tropes that mainstream movie audiences have enjoyed for decades. A sterling reminder of how adept we are as a people at ingesting the artifice of moviemaking– sudden editorial transitions, focal distortions, gracefully steady camera moves, and other synesthetic grammars, to make sense of the natural mysteries of the human condition.
